Stephen J. Blank

Stephen Jerome Blank (* 1950 ) is an American political scientist and Eastern Europe expert with a focus on Russia and the former Soviet Union.

Life

Blank received his bachelor's degree in history from the University of Pennsylvania . This was followed by his Master of Arts (MA) and Ph.D. in Russian History from the University of Chicago . Blank is a writer, television commentator, university professor, and advisor to the US government and the private sector.

From 1979 to 1980 Blank taught Russian history as a Visiting Assistant Professor at the University of California, Riverside . From 1980 to 1986 he was Associate Professor of Soviet Union Studies at the Air University's Center for Aerospace Doctrine, Research, and Education at Maxwell Air Force Base (AFB), Alabama . He was also employed as an Assistant Professor for Soviet Studies at the University of Texas , San Antonio . From 1989 to 2013 Blank worked as Professor of Russian National Security Studies and Professor of National Security Affairs at the Strategic Studies Institute (SSI) of the US Army War College (USAWC) in Carlisle . From 1998 to 2001 he also taught as Douglas MacArthur Professor of Research at the USAWC.
