Stephen Mennell

Stephen Mennell (born May 1, 1944 ) is a British sociologist . He is Professor Emeritus at University College Dublin . Mennell's work is strongly influenced by Norbert Elias .

Mennell studied economics at Cambridge University (BA, 1966 and MA, 1970). He received his PhD from the University of Amsterdam .

He is a member of the board of directors of the Norbert Elias Foundation (Amsterdam) and editor of the English edition of Norbert Elias' collected writings.

He has been an external member of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Sciences (KNAW) since 2004, of the Royal Irish Academy since 2009 and of the Academia Europaea since 2011 .
