Stephen O. Murray

Stephen O. Murray ( May 4, 1950 in Minnesota - August 27, 2019 in San Francisco ) was an American sociologist , anthropologist, and author .

Life

After graduating from high school, Murray studied at the James Madison Collage , Michigan State University . In 1975 he passed his master's degree in sociology from the University of Arizona and his doctorate , also in sociology, from the University of Toronto . He then studied anthropology at the University of California, Berkeley, from 1980 to 1982.

His work includes studies in sociolinguistics , the history of the social sciences, and extensive publications in the intersection of sociology and homosexuality . He dealt in particular with the regions of the United States, Mexico, Canada and Taiwan. Together with Will Roscoe , he wrote studies on homosexuality in sub-Saharan Africa and Islamic areas. Together with Regna Darnell he wrote a monograph series Critical Studies in the History of Anthropology for the University of Nebraska Press .

Murray also published in the Journal of Homosexuality and Histories of Anthropology Annual , and wrote articles for the websites of GLBTQ , epinions.com and associatedcontent.com.
