Stephen Synnott

Stephen P. Synnott (* 1946 in the State of New Jersey ) is an American astronomer who the Voyager program of NASA for exploration of the outer solar system cooperated.

life and career

After a bachelor's degree in aeronautical engineering at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute , he went to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1968 , where he completed his master's degree in 1970 and received his doctorate in 1974. From 1975 he worked at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory of the California Institute of Technology .

Synnott discovered several moons within the solar system, including Metis , Larissa , Proteus , Cressida and Thebe using the images of the Voyager probes .

The asteroid (6154) Stevesynnott was named in his honor .
