The Stephenson Nunatak is a striking, pyramidal and 640 m high nunatak in the southeast of the West Antarctic Alexander I Island . On the northwest bank of Kirwan Inlet, it rises 300 m from the surrounding ice.
The US polar explorers Finn Ronne and Carl R. Eklund (1909–1962) discovered and mapped it during the United States Antarctic Service Expedition (1939–1941). The Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey carried out another survey in 1949. The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named him in 1955 after the geodesist Alfred Stephenson (1908-1999), participant in the British Graham Land Expedition (1934-1937), who had led a sled team to explore the George VI Sound in 1936 .
