The star hair Whitlowgrass ( Draba stellata ) is a plant from the genus of Felsenblümchen ( Draba ) within the family of Brassicaceae (Brassicaceae).

Vegetative characteristics

The star hair rock flower is a perennial herbaceous plant and reaches heights of 3 to 10 centimeters. The leaf blades of the basal leaves are hairy. The stem has no or up to three leaves, which are usually only covered with star hair and eyelashes at the bottom.

Generative characteristics

The flowering period extends from June to July. The hermaphrodite flowers are fourfold. The white petals are 3 to 6 millimeters wide and 4.5 to 8 millimeters long.

The bald or rarely weakly eyelashed pods are 4 to 10 millimeters long and 1.7 to 3.8 millimeters wide.

There is diploidy with a chromosome number of 2n = 16.

Occurrence

The star-haired rock flower is an Austrian endemic of the north-eastern Limestone Alps and the Lower Tauern. It occurs scattered in Upper Austria , Lower Austria and Styria .

This limestone plant thrives mainly in rock corridors and snow-soil communities in the alpine altitude . It has its optimum in the Alps in the plant communities of the Potentillenion caulescentis.
