Sternhaus (Düsseldorf)
The Sternhaus is located at Kaiserswerther Strasse 115 in the Golzheim district of Düsseldorf . Together with the neighboring Sky-Office high-rise , it marks the Kennedydamm office location in the skyline of the city on the Rhine.
description
The building used for an exhibition space as well as several practices, offices and apartments is an example of brutalism : “The facade of the high-rise is clad with storey-high exposed aggregate concrete blocks; the horizontal emphasis is provided by balcony parapets, consisting of prefabricated flower troughs in exposed concrete ”. The building is important in terms of urban development because, as an “18-storey high-rise in an exposed location”, it represents a typical urban dominant feature of the time around 1970. The floor plan and structure are also noteworthy: three hexagonal structures are put together according to the structuralist composition principle in such a way that a "three-star shape" is created. The building was built by the Düsseldorf architects Hentrich , Petschnigg & Partner from 1968 to 1972.
