Tax District Grades

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The tax district of Grades was one of the 89 districts of the province of Carinthia in the first half of the 19th century . It comprised the four tax communities of Grades , Feistritz , Metnitz and Metnitztal with a total area of 41,863 Österreichischen Joch (about 241 km²). The district thus corresponded to the area of today's market town of Metnitz plus those areas that were created in the 20th century by the former municipalities of Grades (area around Zienitzen , 1915; today part of the municipality of Friesach ) and Metnitz (area around Flattnitz , 1973; today part of the municipality Glödnitz ) were assigned to other communities. In 1847 the district had 3477 inhabitants.

The district was named after the capital Grades with the castle of the same name .

In the course of the reforms after the revolution of 1848/49, the tax districts were dissolved. The tax communities that had previously belonged to the tax district of Grades were organized into two political communities ( Metnitz , Grades ) and assigned to the new political district of Sankt Veit .
