Steven J. Sasson
Steven J. Sasson (born July 4, 1950 in Brooklyn ) is an American engineer who constructed Kodak 's first digital camera in 1975 .
Sasson studied electrical engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute with a bachelor's degree in 1972 and a master's degree in 1973. He then worked at Eastman Kodak , where Gareth A. Lloyd commissioned him to build a camera with a CCD sensor . It weighed 3.6 kg, was portable, and only had 10,000 pixels (equivalent to a Fairchild CCD chip ). The picture was black and white and was stored on a cassette and displayed on a television.
Sasson was granted U.S. Patent 4,131,919 on December 26, 1978.
In 2008 he received the culture award of the German Society for Photography . In 2009 he received the National Medal of Technology and Innovation and he was inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame . For 2016 he was awarded the IEEE Masaru Ibuka Consumer Electronics Award .
