Canal in the morning mist

The Stieltjeskanaal (in Drent dialect Stieltieskanaol ) in the province of Drenthe connects the Coevorden-Piccardie channel with the Hoogeveenschen Vaart , another channel in the Dutch Nieuw-Amsterdam in Emmen . It was laid out between 1880 and 1884 and named after Thomas Johannes Stieltjes . The canal route runs from Coevorden in a north-easterly direction through Zandpol to Nieuw-Amsterdam and is 12.9 km long.
