The Melk Abbey Library is the monastery or abbey library of Melk Abbey . It has existed since the Melk Monastery was founded in 1089, as the Benedictine monks coming from Lambach Abbey also brought some writings with them, such as the Benedictine Rule Codex 1942 . Its holdings today include around 100,000 volumes, including 798 incunabula .
By 1926 the library owned a first print of the Gutenberg Bible , which however had to be sold due to lack of money. Today it is in the Beincke Rare Book and Manuscript Library at Yale University , New Haven .
