Foundation: do
The foundation: do is a non-profit foundation under civil law. It was founded in Hamburg in 2005 . It supports projects and initiatives with the aim of improving the situation of refugees and migrants in Germany , Europe and along European borders.
Content
Central issues are access to education , health and remuneration , greater participation in society and anti-discrimination . Particular importance is attached to the fact that the projects are determined and organized by those concerned themselves.
Overarching thematic priorities of funding are (exemplified here):
- the human rights at the EU's external borders
- Rights for people "without papers"
- Actions to overcome the residence requirement in Germany
- Women on the run
- Campaigns against detention and deportation practice
Funding practice
The foundation grants around 80,000 euros in funding annually, thereby supporting 40 to 50 projects (as of July 2014). Four times a year, the board of directors decides on the approval of funding on the basis of applications. The maximum amount that can be requested is 5000 euros. All organizations that prove their non-profit status can submit an application .
organization structure
The board of directors is the central decision-making body and exercises the management; this also decides on the approval of project applications. The Board of Trustees advises the Board of Directors on economic issues and adopts the annual financial statements.
The foundation is a member of the nationwide network of progressive foundations, Wandelstifts, and of the Federal Association of German Foundations .
Investment
Since 2010, the assets have been invested according to self-imposed ethically-sustainable criteria (e.g. at the GLS-Bank , Ethikbank and Umweltbank , in renewable energies, as well as in alternative living and economic projects). The criteria were developed in cooperation with the Movement Foundation. An investment committee advises both foundations on investing and examines possible investment products based on sustainability criteria. The criteria are published on the Internet.
