history

In 1087 the Benedictine monastery Attel was founded , which was dissolved in 1803 in the course of secularization . In 1873 the Attl Foundation was established in the monastery buildings of the former abbey as a facility for people with disabilities and the administration was handed over to the Order of the Brothers of Mercy . In 1905 the monastery was completely modernized. In addition, the east wing receives an extension.

During the Second World War , the National Socialists confiscated the Attl Monastery and ran it as a Wehrmacht hospital. The 230 or so people with disabilities who were housed in Attel at the time came to Hartheim Castle near Linz, where they were gassed. Officially, it is a relocation. After the end of the war, the monastery buildings serve as a reception camp for war refugees.

After the war, in 1950 the Attl Foundation again became an institution for people with disabilities under the leadership of the Brothers of Mercy. In 1970 they handed over the administration of the facility to the Caritas Association of the Diocese of Munich and Freising. Since 1994 the Attl Foundation has acted as a legal foundation under civil law.

Living

Living comprises the largest corporate division within the Attl Foundation. It currently offers housing for 481 children, adults and seniors with intellectual disabilities. The offer of the 52 residential groups ranges from outpatient offers to open to protective groups in the intensive care area.

In 1975 a dormitory for elderly people with disabilities was built, which is now the “Father Rupert Mayer ” living area . In 1987 the Attl Foundation established the first outdoor living group for people with disabilities in the city of Wasserburg. In 1988 a new dormitory is built with places for the severely disabled. Today it is the center of the " Don Bosco " living area .

In 1995, as part of a model project by the Attl Foundation, a privately financed dormitory for the disabled was built in Rott am Inn . The Attl Foundation receives a prize for this from the Bavarian Ministry of Social Affairs . In a cooperation model with the community of Rott am Inn for assisted living for senior citizens in 2001, two residential groups with 20 places are integrated. In addition, the renovation of the east wing of the monastery begins this year and will last until 2004. The new connection between the monastery and the church, called "Spange", is occupied by two residential groups. In 2014, at the instigation of the Rosenheim District Office, the Attl Foundation opened a clearing house for unaccompanied minor refugees. Since 2015, the Schopperstatthaus has offered space for three groups of residential and two mining sites in the Wasserburg center. The residential building was built by the non-profit housing cooperative (GWG) and is renting it long-term to the Attl Foundation. In 2017 the Attl Foundation will open three new residential buildings in Eiselfing.

Assisted outpatient living

Since 2007, the Attl Foundation has been helping people with disabilities to live within their own four walls in and around Wasserburg as part of its outpatient assisted living.

Work

When the Attl Foundation was founded in 1873 as a facility for people with disabilities, agriculture and gardening, as well as the kitchen and craft businesses, formed the traditional work areas for the residents of the Attl Foundation. Almost 100 years later, the construction of the Inntal workshops begins. In 1979 the "Workshop for Disabled People" (WfbM) was recognized under the Severely Disabled Persons Act. In 1986 the "workshop for disabled people", today's "Inntal workshops", was completely rebuilt. They include a canteen and kitchen, a gardening shop, the Attler market, an agricultural business, a production facility consisting of an assembly and metal department, a car workshop, as well as a carpentry and weaving workshop in the Rott branch.

In 1998 the nursery was expanded and moved into the new building at the entrance to Attel. In 1999 a new building followed with modern equipment for the kitchen, an attached canteen for the employees of the Inntal workshops and a multi-purpose area. In 2005 the farm moves from the monastery area to a new building at the entrance to the town. The Attler Naturland farm is a recognized organic farm. He operates chicken and suckler cow husbandry, pig fattening, timber, and grain and potato cultivation and offers 30 jobs for people with disabilities. Agriculture suffered a severe blow in 2015. On the night of October 4th, the cowshed at the Attler Hof burned down completely, killing more than 80 animals. After the reconstruction, the cattle will be reinstalled in April 2017.
