The non-profit foundation House of Little Researchers has been committed to improving the education of girls and boys in day-care centers and primary school age in the fields of natural sciences , mathematics , IT , technology and education for sustainable development (ESD) since 2006 . With a nationwide training program, educational specialists and teachers are supported in promoting the spirit of discovery in children and providing them with qualified support in their research. The foundation wants to make a contribution to the improvement of educational opportunities, to the promotion of young talent in the so-called MINT subjects (mathematics, computer science, natural science and technology) and to the professionalization of the educational staff.
The foundation's partners are the Helmholtz Association , the Siemens Foundation , the Dietmar Hopp Foundation and the Deutsche Telekom Foundation . It is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research .
Network structure
In order to reach daycare centers, after-school care centers and primary schools throughout Germany, the “House of Little Researchers” foundation works with 216 local network partners.
The educational foundation advises the network partners and provides them with concepts, working documents and content. She also trains the trainers.
The network partners are mainly educational institutions, cities / districts, business associations and daycare providers. They organize and coordinate the local advanced training for pedagogical specialists and teachers. Trainers then implement the training courses in close coordination with the network partners.
Pedagogical approach
The “House of Little Scientists” foundation assumes the following picture of the child:
- Children are rich in prior knowledge and skills
- Children want to learn on their own
- Children actively shape their education and development
- Children are individual personalities
- Children have rights
These assumptions form the basis for pedagogical action. In addition, the foundation's educational approach is shaped by the pedagogical guideline of co-construction. This means that children and their pedagogical companions shape learning processes together. In the successful organization of such co-constructive learning processes, the pedagogical specialists and teachers perceive the children as active creators of knowledge and culture. They need a very high willingness to communicate with the girls and boys, to adopt a questioning and reflective attitude towards their own learning processes and those of the child, but also courage to bring their own open questions into the process.
