The Frankfurt Polytechnic Foundation is a non-profit foundation under civil law .

Emergence

The foundation was established in 2005 by the traditional Polytechnische Gesellschaft e. V. founded. The Polytechnische Gesellschaft provided the majority of the proceeds from the sale of Frankfurter Sparkasse to Landesbank Hessen-Thüringen (Helaba) to establish the foundation . This gave the Polytechnic Society foundation a starting capital of 397 million euros.

The foundation is both active and operational and promotes in the sense of a multi-branch foundation in the following areas:

  • Language education

  • Introduction to science and technology
  • Promotion of civic engagement.

The individual projects are summarized in so-called project chains . The funded or self-developed projects build on each other within the project chains and thus benefit each other.

Goals and Activities

Due to their origin, the foundation supports locally or in the interests of Frankfurt citizens. It sees itself as the workbench of urban society. The aim of the foundation is to strengthen Frankfurt's position within Germany and in comparison to other metropolises. She wants to help Frankfurt develop into a model for a modern, citizen-friendly urban society.

Nineteen lead projects, which are always about education and responsibility in the broadest sense, characterize the work of the foundation: Babylotsen , Citizens' Academy , The Great Spelling Competition , German Summer , Diesterweg Scholarship for children and their parents , jazz and improvised music in school , Young Researchers , Junior Engineer Academy , College for Young Talents , Concert Education Projects , Main Campus Scholarship Work, Digitechnikum, Meine Zeitung , Opera Studio , Polytechnic Prize , Saturday School for Gifted Craftsmen , District Ambassadors , District Historians and Welcome Days in early parental leave .

  • 2012: Land of Ideas : The Diesterweg grant for children and their parents as an "educational idea "
  • 2013: Hessian integration prize "Integration and Family" for the Diesterweg scholarship for children and their parents

The establishment of the Polytechnic Society Foundation, the Frankfurt Foundation for the Blind and Visually Impaired and the Wöhler Foundation by the Polytechnische Gesellschaft e. V. was awarded the German Founder's Prize in 2016 by the Federal Association of German Foundations .
