Foundation for Egyptology

The Foundation for Egyptology is a non-profit foundation in Basel that aims to research into ancient Egyptian legal history.

The Foundation for Egyptology was established in 2010 by the Egyptologist Schafik Allam . It has been based in Basel since 2015. The president is the Egyptologist Susanne Bickel . The purpose of the foundation is to promote science in the field of ancient Egyptian legal history, with a focus on documents in Egyptian language and script ( hieroglyphic , hieratic , italic, hierarchical, demotic , Coptic ) at a German-speaking university. The non-profit foundation exclusively pursues the promotion of science by supporting a German-speaking university with an established course in Egyptology. The foundation is politically and religiously neutral.

The aim of the foundation is to be achieved through the partial financing of a university staff position for the habilitation of a doctorate Egyptologist or for the employment of an Egyptologist who has already qualified as a professor in research and teaching.

Suitable candidates must have received a doctorate in Egyptology with a focus on philology and, in addition, have obtained at least a certificate in criminal and civil law as well as at least one basic legal certificate.

The foundation also pursues its purpose of promoting research into ancient Egyptian legal history by holding competitions in which people who have completed a degree in Egyptology can take part.
