Foundation for Future Issues

The Foundation for Future Issues is a non-profit foundation for research into the future of society. The foundation is financed by the tobacco manufacturer British American Tobacco . The seat of the foundation is Hamburg .

history

The foundation was established in 2007. The forerunner was the BAT Leisure Research Institute (founded in 1979). The founder and scientific director until 2010 was Horst W. Opaschowski , who was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit for his scientific achievements.

Ulrich Reinhardt has been Scientific Director of the Foundation since 2011 . In addition to his foundation work, Reinhardt is a member of various advisory groups in Germany and abroad and holds a professorship at the West Coast University of Applied Sciences in Heide (Holstein) .

Foundation purpose

The Foundation for Future Issues names the goal of contributing to the future viability of society. The focus here is on the social and cultural quality of life, which the foundation assesses as the highest values ​​of the 21st century. It is not, as in the past decades, a matter of material values, but of life satisfaction and social well-being.

subjects

The foundation works on various topics, including tourism (the annual analyzes are considered a "trend barometer for the tourism industry"), leisure, media, as well as numerous future topics (future of work, values, the city, consumption).

method

The research work is based on qualitative and quantitative methods - in addition to key question interviews and small group discussions, the focus is on regular representative surveys on which the time series research is based.
