Still, still, still

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Quiet, quiet, quiet, because the child wants to sleep is a German-language Christmas carol from the Salzburg region . It is also known in the English-speaking world, although there are relatively true-to-original and freer translations.

history

The song is said to have been recorded in 1819. The melody is a folk tune from the Salzburg region that first appeared in print in 1865 in Salzburg in a folk song collection of the founder of the Salzburg Museum Carolino Augusteum , Maria Vinzenz Süß (1802–1868). The standard German text version is attributed to Georg Götsch (1895–1956).

1. Quiet, quiet, quiet, because the child wants to sleep!
Mary sing it down,
offer up your chaste breast.
Quiet, quiet, quiet, because the child wants to sleep.

1. Quiet, quiet, quiet, because the child wants to sleep.
Mary does it sing,
offer her chaste breast.
Quiet, quiet, quiet, because the child wants to sleep.

2. Sleep, sleep, sleep, my sweet child, sleep! The angels make music beautifully, cheer the child, sleep, sleep, sleep, my sweet child, sleep. -

2. Sleep, sleep, sleep, my dear little child, sleep!
The angels play nice music,
cheer in front of the Kripplein.
Sleep, sleep, sleep, my dear little child, sleep!

3. Big, big, big, the Liab is oversized!
God has left the heavenly throne
And must travel on the roads;
Big, big, big, the Liab is oversized!

3. Big, big, big, love is too big.
God has left the throne of heaven
and must travel the streets.
Big, big, big, love is huge.

4. Up, up, up, you Adams children, up!
Fall at your feet all Jesus,
Because he will atone for us sin,
up, up, up, you children of Adam.

4. Up, up, up, you Adam children!
Fall at the feet of Jesus all
because he atone for sin for us!
Up, up, up, you Adam children, up!

5. We, we, we are calling everyone to you!
Thua
open up the kingdom of heaven for us, If we have to die one day,
we, we, we, do all call to you.

5. We, we, we, we all call to you:
Unlock the kingdom of heaven for us
if we have to die one day.
We, we, we, we call everyone to you.

Often, instead of “offering your chaste breast”, one sings “offering your great love”.
