action

In Prague in 1929, the private detective Gustav (called Gus) McPherson investigates a brutal series of murders of prostitutes, all of which have certain similarities. Among other things, he encounters resistance from a police chief who is not very cooperative and two less well-to-do but powerful brothers who do not want Gus any good.

At the same time, the story of Gus' granddaughter Victoria McPherson, who, like her grandfather, is also committed to fighting crime, is told in Chicago in 2004. The FBI profiler has been commissioned with her second serial killer case and is already inspecting the plot at the beginning the fifth crime scene. She soon noticed similarities between this series of murders and the incidents her grandfather was investigating in Prague. By studying his records, she finally gets on the trail of the killer.

Game principle and technology

Still Life is a 2.5D point-and-click adventure. For polygons composite, three-dimensional figures act before two-dimensional pre-rendered scenes. The player controls the character - Gus or Victoria - with the mouse through the game world. With the mouse buttons he can initiate actions that allow the respective game character to interact with his environment. He can find objects, apply them to the environment or other objects and communicate with NPCs . Dialogues are controlled by a single choice selection of topics given by the game that fit the situation. As the story progresses, more locations will be unlocked.

Production notes

After Still Life hit the international market in 2005, the company that had previously published the Syberia series was bought by Ubisoft.
