Voice ( Ukrainian Голос Holos ) is a political party in Ukraine .

It was founded in Kiev on May 16, 2019, under the leadership of Svyatoslav Wakarchuk . It can be assigned to liberalism , wants to expand e-government, reorganize the legal system, fight corruption, advocate integration into the European Union and NATO , and seek a peaceful solution to the Ukraine crisis .

history

The longtime activist ( Orange Revolution and Euromaidan ) and well-known Ukrainian front singer of his rock band Okean Elsy , whose songs are cult in the Ukraine, has been rumored for years that he had greater political ambitions and could become the next president of Ukraine. Opinion polls in the spring and summer of 2018 spoke of an approval rate of 9-10% - about a year before the presidential election on March 31, 2019. However, the lack of clarity about his political ambitions, the rise of the political newcomer Volodymyr Zelensky and statements made during public appearances who were far removed from the topics of the primary campaign at the time, disappointed the voters and the approval ratings fell to 2-3 percent at the beginning of the presidential campaign.

In January 2019, Wakarchuk officially renounced the candidacy, did not make an election recommendation and spoke of bringing new faces into Ukrainian politics. Experts believe that Zelenskyi's victory would have been less likely if Wakarchuk, who initially had better or equal poll numbers, would also have run.

«Нам нужны новые политические лидеры. Я не верю в революции, так как они не обеспечивают устойчивых решений. »

“We need new political leaders. I don't believe in revolutions because they don't bring sustainable solutions. "

- Svyatoslav Vakarchuk : Pravda.ua

In an interview in May, Vakarchuk said that the Verkhovna Rada , the parliament of Ukraine, is the place where change is possible and that he therefore did not stand in the presidential election. After the Orange Revolution, he sat as an independent member of parliament for a year and later advised Prime Minister Volodymyr Hroysman .

Potential voters are young, pro-European and moderately patriotic Ukrainians, especially in western Ukraine and Kiev. Candidates for holos / voice must support the values of the Maidan and be independent of oligarchs and former president Viktor Yanukovych . For example, party donations are rejected by oligarchs and come from small and medium-sized enterprises as well as Vakarchuk himself.

The election campaign appearances of the party leader Wakarchuk with his band Okean Elsy, called "Tour of Change", are described as a mixture of political speeches and rock concerts, since he gives speeches and the presentation of his party as well as a free concert. Despite the little more than two months between the founding and the early parliamentary elections on July 21 , which meant that no nationwide party structure could be built and, unlike Zelensky, there is no own or loyal media company behind Holos / Vote, the party comes according to surveys shortly before the election to 5.9%, which would make it the fourth strongest force - but it was already 8.4% in surveys at the end of June.
