Stjepan I. Lacković

Stjepan I. Lacković (German Stephan I. Laczkowitsch , Hungarian Lackfi István I ; † 1353 ) was Ban of Croatia , Slavonia and Dalmatia from the House of Lacković .

Life

Stjepan I. Lacković was the son of Ladislaus Lacković , a nobleman from Transylvania . He was Duke of Transylvania, a historical and geographical area in the southern Carpathian region , which at that time ( 14th century ) belonged to Hungary .

He was appointed Ban of Croatia , Slavonia and Dalmatia in 1350 . The Croatian-Hungarian King Ludwig I ("The Great") of Anjou gave him the Međimurje County , the northernmost part of Croatia , with the Čakovec fortress . The Lacković family ruled this area for the next 47 years.

Lacković had six children, including his successor Stjepan II , who was later also Ban of Croatia .
