from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Stjepan II. Lacković (German Stephan II. Laczkowitsch , Hungarian II. Lackfi István ; * before 1354, † February 27, 1397 in Križevci ) was Ban of Croatia and Dalmatia from the House of Lacković .

Life

Stjepan II. Lacković, called "von Čakovec " (Croat. "Čakovečki") was the son of Stjepan I. Lacković , the Duke of Transylvania and Ban of Croatia , Slavonia and Dalmatia . In addition to these titles, he had several other titles, namely: Palatine of Hungary , Prince of Zadar , Lord of the Međimurje with the fortress of Čakovec, Lord of the Limbach ( Slovenia ) and Keszthely ( Hungary ), Count of Zala , Veszprém and Győr (Hungary ), and Komárno (Slovakia).

He was appointed Ban of Croatia and Dalmatia for the first time in 1371 and ruled until 1372. For the second time he ruled from 1383 to 1384.

On August 27, 1376 he, then owner of the Međimurje county , founded the important Pauline monastery of Sveta Jelena (St. Helena), two kilometers from the town of Čakovec , where the family grave of the Zrinski family is located.

Lacković supported King Karl von Durazzo (Croatian: Karlo II. Drački) and not Queen Maria , the daughter of King Ludwig I, and her husband Sigismund of Luxembourg . In the battle of Nicopolis against the Ottomans , he nevertheless took part with Sigismund. A few months after the defeat in this battle, King Sigismund called the Croatian Sabor (assembly / state parliament) in the town of Križevci (German: Kreutz), accused Lacković of causing the defeat and left him, along with his supporters, on the Murder place. That was the so-called "Bloody Meeting of Križevci", which took place on February 27, 1397.
