The bulk carrier type B470 (other spelling also B-470 ) of the shipyard Stocznia im. Komuny Paryskiej in Gdynia was built in series from the late 1960s to the early 1970s.

history

The B470 series was designed in the mid-1960s. In 1967 the first of seven units was delivered to Soviet Russian shipping companies. In 1971 three more units were built for the Polish shipping company Polska Żegluga Morska . At the end of production in Poland, the very similarly conceived and modernized type Dimitrov 24 was developed by the Bulgarian Georgi-Dimitrov shipyard and built in large numbers.

Technical details

The B470 basic design was designed as bulk carriers with superstructures arranged aft . The ships had seven holds , each served by its own hatch. The ships of the type had a carrying capacity of around 23,000 tons and at maximum unloading to 9.54 m. The units were designed to transport various bulk goods , such as grain, coal and minerals. The tank roof of the cargo holds was also reinforced for the transport of ore.

The ships were propelled by a Sulzer two - stroke diesel engine . The engine allowed a speed of about 15  knots . Several auxiliary diesels and an emergency diesel generator were available.
