The Stoewer V 5 is a small car that the Stoewer automobile company brought out in 1931. The Great Depression caused the company to bring out smaller and more affordable vehicles. The new cars had front-wheel drive and swing axles. This made them the first German production cars with this design (even before the DKW F1 ).
The front wheels hung on lower wishbones and were sprung with a transverse leaf spring. The rear wheels were also suspended. The vehicle had a four cylinder - V-engine (V4 " side valve ") having 1.2 liters of capacity as front engine installed, the 25 horsepower developed and drive the front wheels via a 3-speed transmission.
The normal version was accompanied by a sports model with an engine with 30 hp.
A total of 2,100 copies were produced by 1932.
Since the V4 engine had not proven itself, the Stoewer R 140 with a 1.4 liter four-cylinder in- line engine replaced the models with a V4 engine as early as 1932 .
