For freedom: Stefan Stambolow with Sachari Stojanow , Stojan Saimow and Nikola Obretenow

Saimow was one of the organizers and leaders of the bloodily suppressed April uprising (1876). He was chief apostle (leader) of the rebels in the III. revolutionary region of Wraza . During the uprising, Saimov was captured and sentenced to death by the Ottoman authorities. The death sentence was commuted to life after the intervention of the great powers and Saimov was imprisoned in the Akkon prison in the Akkon fortress (now in Israel).

After the Peace of San Stefano in 1878, Saimov, like all prisoners of the April Uprising, was released and he returned to Bulgaria, which had meanwhile been liberated. In 1886 he founded the magazine "Училищен преглед" (in German about: school review). Between 1903 and 1908 Saimov was director of the Bulgarian National Library .
