The National Library of Saints Cyril and Method ( Bulgarian Национална библиотека "Св. Св. Кирил и Методий" Nazionlna biblioteka Sw. Sw. Kiril i Metodii ) in Sofia is the national library of Bulgaria . It bears the names of two European patrons , Saints Cyril and Method .

The Library of Saints Cyril and Methodius was founded on April 4, 1878, and three years later it received national library status. In 1924 the Bulgarian Renaissance archive was added.

Special collections

Slavic manuscripts, a collection of more than 1500 originals (11th to 19th centuries).

Greek and other foreign manuscripts, about 200 documents (9th to 19th centuries).

Eastern manuscripts, including approximately 3,100 Arabic , 500 Ottoman, and 150 Persian (11th-19th centuries).

Various archives of Ottoman, Arabic and Persian documents (15th century to early 20th century), cataloged under the collection of the Orient Archives and the Modern Turkish Archives and 328 independent finds, each sorted according to geographical criteria. Both collections contain more than 500,000 units, 714 registers and 168 sidjals.

Old prints, rare and valuable, a collection of around 30,000 volumes in Old Slavic , Bulgarian and other languages ​​(15th to 20th centuries) as well as a collection of the Bulgarian Renaissance press from the period before 1878.

Old printed books from the Orient, a collection of around 2000 volumes in Arabic, Turkish and Persian (from 1593 to the beginning of the 20th century).

The Bulgarian historical archive with more than 1.5 million documents from 700 different archives documents the work of Bulgarian revolutionaries and personalities from business, culture and the public (18th century to early 20th century), as well as the history of the independence struggle in today's Macedonia (see History of Bulgaria # Macedonian Question ).
