The National Library of Belarus ( Belarusian Нацыянальная бібліятэка Беларусі , Russian Национальная библиотека Беларуси ) was founded on September 15, 1922.

At that time it was also the university library . During the Second World War , the holdings of the National Library were also affected. Much of the pre-war stock disappeared.

In 1989 it was decided to build a new library building in Minsk , but it wasn't until 2002 that construction began. On June 16, 2006, the 72 meter high building was finally completed and opened. The shape of the building is an Archimedean solid , the small rhombic cuboctahedron . The architects are Viktor Kramarenko and Michail Vinogradov.
