dctp is the abbreviation for Development Company for Television Program mbH (English: "Development company for television program") and is a platform founded in 1987 for independent providers in German private television . dctp broadcasts with its own editorial responsibility in program windows of the television stations RTL , Sat.1 , VOX and as part of PresseTV on SRF 1 and SRF info . In addition, from 2001 to 2006 dctp operated the television broadcaster XXP together with Spiegel TV . 98 percent of the shares of dctp and Spiegel TV in XXP were sold to the US media group Discovery Communications in January 2006 and in full in August 2006 .

Corporate form

dctp is a limited liability company (GmbH) based in Düsseldorf . The shares are held by Alexander Kluge (37.5%), Dentsū (37.5%), Der Spiegel (12.5%) and Neue Zürcher Zeitung AG (12.5%).

Contribution character and reception

In addition to in-house productions and films, most of which come from the archives of the authors' film publisher , the content comes from cooperation partners such as Spiegel TV , Neue Zürcher Zeitung , Süddeutsche Zeitung , stern and BBC . The private broadcasters are legally obliged within the framework of the “ third-party broadcasting licenses ” to broadcast a certain share from this pool and to reimburse the cooperation partner for the costs. While the documentaries have become commercially successful components of private television in the meantime, the films are mostly "pushed" to late program slots.

On July 18, 2014, the RTL broadcasting line decided, following a ruling by the Lower Saxony Higher Administrative Court (10 ME 99/13 of July 11, 2014), to discontinue the dctp productions Spiegel TV and stern TV with immediate effect. As of July 28, 2014, RTL was obliged to broadcast the magazine again due to a previous formal error.

criticism

In August 2008 Ulrich Wickert sued the state media authority responsible for the award because he and his own production company UWP did not get the chance to award the window programs on RTL against dctp. It is criticized that in fact all legally enforced external windows were occupied by programs of the dctp. Wickert was neither heard nor informed about the outcome of the award of the contract by the state media authorities involved in the decision under appeal.

Internet service dctp.tv

In May 2009, dctp launched the web TV format dctp.tv. In addition to a live stream, there is a theme park that contains so-called theme loops, each of which contains several films. The loops at the start of the page were called, among other things, war is the end of all plans , cosmos , 150 years of Darwin and no end , love makes clairvoyant , without music all life is a mistake and capitalism is not a one-way street . On March 25, 2010, dctp.tv received the golden LeadAward in the Web TV category. In 2011 the project was awarded the Germany Web Video Prize in the Talk category.
