The Dalavegur is a main road in the south of Iceland . It connects the Herjólfur ferry pier on the island of Heimaey with the airport there .
At the ferry terminal, the Básaskersbryggja, the street is called Skildingavegur, then in town first Heiðarvegur, then Strembugata, which later becomes Dalavegur and leaves the town of Heimaey. Outside of town, the maximum speed is only 60 km / h, instead of the 90 km / h otherwise permitted in Iceland on asphalt roads. The road is just under 2.5 km long and has 16 intersections or branches in its course.
The other two national roads on the island are the Eldfellsvegur , 1.36 km, east of the village and the Stórhöfðavegur , 3.40 km almost to the southern tip of the island. Both are only side streets and do not branch off directly from Dalavegur.
