The Vestmannaeyjar Airport ( . Isländ Vestmannaeyjaflugvöllur ) ( IATA Code VEY , ICAO BIVM is an airport on the island) Heimaey in the south of Iceland . The airport is also known as Westman Islands Airport .

Airlines and destinations

The most important local airline was Air Iceland , which operated several flights a day to Reykjavík Airport . All flights were suspended on August 3, 2010 due to disputes with the local government. Since then, Eagle Air has been the main airline.

From Vestmannaeyjar Airport, private flights are operated to Bakki Airport on Iceland's south coast, which take around seven minutes. The flight time to Reykjavík is around 25 minutes.
