The Party of the Democratic Left ( Slovak : Strana Demokratickej ľavice , SDĽ for short ) is a political party in Slovakia . Their alignment is left of center . Its current chairman is the manager Mark Blaha . The party describes itself as a modern left party. She advocates equal opportunities as well as economic and social justice.

history

Originally, the party was first founded under the same name in 1990. In 1999, however, several members split off from the party and, under the leadership of Robert Fico, founded the then left-wing social democratic party SMER . In December 2004, the original SDĽ finally merged with SMER. In May 2005 a new company was founded. Between the 2010 and 2012 parliamentary elections, it became known that the party was being supported by Slovak armaments companies in order to steal votes from the SMER-SD.

elections

In its first election in 2006 , the party won 0.18 percent of the vote. In the parliamentary elections in 2010 , it recorded significant gains of 2.41 percent. This was not enough for entry into parliament, as it would have required at least five percent of the votes. In the 2012 National Council election , she again won 0.18 percent of the vote. In the general election in 2016 it did not happen again.
