Stratovarius is the twelfth studio album by the Finnish power metal band Stratovarius of the same name . It was released on August 31, 2005 and is the reunion album of the band around Timo Tolkki , which was about to break up.

History of origin

At the end of 2003 he kicked Timo Kotipelto out of the band and instead brought the Finn Katriina Wiiala into the band, for whom he also wrote the songs. But then Tolkki allowed himself to be admitted to a mental hospital because of thoughts of suicide. There it was found that he suffered from manic depression . After a while, however, he was thought to have been cured and released from the clinic. The band reunited in January 2005, Jörg Michael had already recorded the drum tracks, and in April the rest of the album was finished. According to Timo Tolkki, this album marks the beginning of a new era for Stratovarius ; For the first time in the band's history, not a single double bass song can be found on the album.

Even before the album was released, there were problems with the German Foreign Ministry, as Tolkki had planned a song called Hitler for the CD , which was supposed to contain a speech by the dictator as an intro . Tolkki had to send the song to Germany , where it was decided that the name had to be changed and the speech clearly blended into the background. The song ended up as Zenith Of Power (Götterdämmerung) on the album.

However, an unofficial video for the demo version of the song is circulating on the Internet, i.e. the version in which the Hitler speech is still the intro. The song is accompanied by pictures from the Second World War .

The songs Maniac Dance, Back To Madness and United have a special place on the album as they deal with the band situation. In Maniac Dance , Kotipelto sings that Tolkki has realized that he can only continue the band with the old line-up. In Back To Madness, which has a bit of a progressive touch, Tolkki describes his experiences at the clinic, and United is a kind of thanksgiving hymn to the fans, with great live potential.
