Straumnes is a headland in the Vestfirðir region in the far northwest of Iceland . The headland is on Hornstrandir , about 40 kilometers north of the town of Ísafjörður in the east of the Aðalvík bay .
On the Straumnesfjall mountain (377 meters) the Americans built a radar station between 1953 and 1956 , which was then operated until July 1960.
