Strawberry Fields is a memorial in New York's Central Park .

After John Lennon's death, Yoko Ono designed a small area in Central Park dedicated to him and named after his song Strawberry Fields Forever . It is located in Central Park West near Eighth Avenue at West 72nd Street , not far from the Dakota Building , where Lennon and Ono lived and where John Lennon was assassinated on December 8, 1980. The inauguration took place on October 9, 1985, Lennon would have been 45 years old that day. A special feature of the Strawberry Fields is the circular mosaic made of black and white stones, designed by Yoko Ono and executed by Italian craftsmen . In its center you can read Imagine, inspired by Lennon's perhaps most famous title . Every year on the day of his death, people gather there to commemorate him. On the occasion of his 70th birthday, a bronze plaque was inaugurated in the ground on October 9, 2010, listing the names of the 121 states that supported the idea of the memorial in the name of peace in 1985.
