Striolata striolata is a land-living snail species from the family of the forest cap snail (Cochlostomatidae) in the order Architaenioglossa ("old bandworm"). It is the only species in the genus Striolata Wagner, 1897.

features

The right-hand wound case is conical to oblong-conical and measures 8 to 9 mm (9.7 mm) in height and 3.5 to 4.5 mm (4.9 mm) in width. The cases are alternately ornamented with weaker and stronger ribs. 1 to 4 weaker ribs are followed by a stronger rib. On the first and last turn, the ribs are almost uniform. The number of ribs per turn varies only slightly. The ribs are slightly oblique to the axis of the coil and are also slightly S-shaped.

The apex is blunt, the base relatively broad. The housing has 7 to 8 moderately curved turns, which increase rapidly and are separated from one another by a shallow seam. The last handle is rounded at the bottom, but often also somewhat flattened and forming an edge; it does not rise. The mouth is rounded-egg-shaped, slightly pointed at the top. The lower end recedes slightly to the rear. The mouth edge is simple to doubled, only narrowly turned over and tapering sharply. The inner lip is only indicated and connected by a thin lamella. The navel is narrow but open.

The shell is thin and translucent, the surface only slightly shiny and matt. It is pale horn-colored with three lines of spots that may fade. The top line is divided into slightly crooked, essentially radial welts. The (stronger) ribs are often white.

The housings are very variable in the sculpture. At one location the fine ribs clearly predominate, at other locations there are housings that often have stronger ribs. The males are on average slightly smaller than the females. The soft body is gray.

Geographical distribution and habitat

The species is distributed in northern Italy ( Liguria ) and southern France (around Nice ). It is much more common in the east of the distribution area.

In Liguria, the species occurs in rather cool habitats in ravines on limestone rocks.

Taxonomy

The species taxon was introduced in 1840 by Carlo Porro as Pomatias striolatum . Anton Josef Wagner established the genus Striolata for this species in 1897 . This was apparently overlooked, because in 1971 Falco Giusti established a further new genus for Pomatias striolatum Porro, in 1840, Toffolettia ; it is thus a more recent objective synonym .

The Fauna Europaea has the following synonyms:

  • Pomatias arturi Lessona 1880
  • Pomatias contractum Westerlund 1885
  • Pomatias defilippii Pini 1884
  • Pomatias isseli Caziot 1910
  • Pomatias isselianus Bourguignat 1869
  • Pomatias lunense De Stefani 1879
  • Pomatias veranyi Locard 1894
