Peter Hollens (born March 4, 1980 ) is an American pop singer, composer and producer from Eugene , Oregon . He has been involved in a cappella music since 1999 when he and Leo da Silva founded the a cappella group On the Rocks at the University of Oregon , the first official collegiate a cappella group in Oregon.

Career

Originally from Ashland , Oregon , Peter Hollens studied at the University of Oregon and graduated with a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance. Since graduating from the University of Oregon, he has been involved in a collegiate a cappella group, for which he records and produces. He is also a member of the jury for a cappella competitions in the USA . When he at 2010 The Sing-Off of NBC participated, he was praised by the Sing-Off judges Shawn Stockman , Nicole Scherzinger and Ben Folds for solo performance and lead his group, On the Rocks . They were eliminated as the sixth of the ten groups that appeared. Peter Hollens produces in his own music studio in Eugene, Oregon, and made recordings for Sony and Epic Records , among others . Hollens is married to Evynne Smith, the founder of the a cappella group Divisi .

Hollens made recordings for "The Sing-Off Season 2 - Greatest Hits" and produced albums for various collegiate a cappella groups; for On the Rocks , Divisi , Cornell's Chordials , The Duke's Men of Yale and Whiffenpoofs, among others . He has also recorded with the Sing off Season 2 winners, Committed , the Season 2 backbeats, and also with Grammy-winning group The Swingle Singers .

In 2012 he released his first own album. In 2013 he worked with Eric Whitacre to record the learning tracks for Eric's Virtual Choir 4 "Bliss".

In 2015 he sings the duet Our Special Love with Brian Wilson on his CD No Pier Pressure .

National TV appearances

On October 22, 2010, On the Rocks and Peter Hollens announced that they would be competing with nine other groups on the NBC competition reality show The Sing Off . The first four episodes were broadcast in August and September 2010, the finale on December 20, 2010 was broadcast live. On the Rocks ranked 5th among the ten groups that appeared in all five episodes. A vacation album was subsequently released with tracks from the ten groups that participated in The Sing Off . Individual tracks (live and studio recordings) were also made available on iTunes .
