Stubersheimer Alb

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Stubersheimer Alb is part of the eastern Swabian Alb . It was also known as the Geislinger Alb in the 19th century. It extends from Geislingen an der Steige in the west to the Albuch in the east. In the south, the Lone represents the boundary. In terms of landscape, it is part of the so-called Middle Kuppenalb , an undulating landscape characterized by dry valleys and karst depressions north of the Miocene cliff line . On the western edge of the Stubersheimer Alb lies the Battenau , the largest karst depression in the Alb, which lies exactly on the main European watershed . It is named after the place Stubersheim , today a sub-municipality of Amstetten (Württemberg) , Alb-Donau district . In the Middle Ages, a noble family resided here, later Stubersheim became the seat of an office of the imperial city of Ulm.
