The Sturgeon Lake is a lake in the Canadian province of Alberta .
The lake is 90 km east of the town of Grande Prairie and 15 km west of Valleyview . The Alberta Highway 43 , which connects the two cities, runs on the south shore of Sturgeon Lake. The place Sturgeon Heights is at the western end of the lake. The Indian reservations of Sturgeon Lake 154 and Sturgeon Lake 154A are on the south and east shores of the lake. Young's Point Provincial Park is on the north bank of the lake and Williamson Provincial Park on the south bank . The lake is divided into a main basin and a secondary bay to the west. On the southeastern shore of the lake, the Sturgeon Creek , a tributary of the Little Smoky River , flows out of the lake. In 1949 the water level of Sturgeon Lake was raised by 0.76 m through the construction of a drainage control structure.
The following types of fish are caught in the lake: eyeglasses , American perch , arctic grayling , pike and herring vendace .
