The Neckarhafen Stuttgart is the inland port of the city of Stuttgart and at the same time the most important trimodal transport hub (water, rail, road) in the Stuttgart region .

The port was ceremonially opened on March 31, 1958 by Federal President Theodor Heuss . It is operated by Hafen Stuttgart GmbH , a subsidiary of the City of Stuttgart. The port at Neckar is kilometer 186 between Unter- and Obertürkheim or between Wangen and Hedelfingen ; the Stuttgart-Hafen district belongs to the Hedelfingen district.

The port was built in two stages between 1954 and 1958 and between 1966 and 1968. This made it the second largest inland port on the Neckar. The Neckar between Mettingen and Stuttgart-Wangen was moved to a bed about one kilometer further to the west. At the same time, federal road 10 was relocated and expanded. Since then, this no longer runs east of the Neckar between Mettingen and Bad Cannstatt , but in four lanes immediately west of the (new) Neckar bank. The costs amounted to around 80 million DM. The Stuttgart port consists of three docks with a water surface of 31 hectares between the barrage Obertürkheim and the barrage Untertürkheim . There are around 50 companies with 2,500 jobs on the port site.

In 2011, 3.141 million tons of goods were handled - 0.974 million tons on the waterside, 2.167 million tons on the rail side. The extensive area is opened up by the Stuttgart port railway, which is also operated by Hafen Stuttgart GmbH .

With the rapidly growing container throughput, a total of 49,325 containers were moved in 2011, 14,085 containers on the waterside, 35,240 containers on the rail side and 19,201 containers in the rail / road transshipment station.
