Trim in traditional costumes

Nozzles are among others in the folk costume traditionally worn separately of foot or socks and Bavarian Loferl or Loiferl called. Loferl have their origins in the time when the rural population mostly went barefoot and were used as protection against the cold or to cover up too much bare skin, for example when going to church. The separation of the foot part and leg part is also due to the fact that the knitted foot part wears more when worn than the knitted leg part. If the foot section was no longer usable despite repeated tamping, the leg section continued to be used and was supplemented with new socks. Loferl are usually worn with short leather pants with or without socks.

Socks in sport

Outside of traditional costumes, socks are now mostly worn in sports, especially football and hockey , where they are often part of a player's basic equipment. They cover the athlete's leg up to the thigh and are pulled over any shin guards that may be present .

There are two variants of sockets, the bridge sockets and the socks.

Connecting piece

Socks in the narrower sense (often also referred to as "bridge sockets" to differentiate exactly) have only one strap that prevents them from sliding up. This type of socks is worn in addition to normal stockings (socks).

Socks

In contrast to the bridge socks, socks (often also referred to as socks or alternatively also as soccer socks or soccer socks) also have socks and are therefore worn without additional socks.

In a certain way, neck socks in particular are comparable to knee socks - yet they have several clear differences to them:

In sport today, socks / socks essentially consist of synthetic fibers, in particular polyester, polyacrylic and / or polyamide (nylon) and elastane. Sometimes cotton is also used as a material, but mostly only as an admixture to the aforementioned components. By using synthetic fibers, socks / socks can have a particularly good fit and optimally adapt to the respective leg of the athlete. In addition, there is less risk of slipping down the leg.

Due to the generally higher elasticity compared to normal stockings, neck stockings are usually sold in coarser sizes - e.g. B. Sizes 39-42 and 43-46.

A curiosity worth mentioning is that nylon is particularly popular in the clothing industry as a material for women's stockings and tights . The nylon content of these products is often below 90%, while socks can consist almost entirely of nylon, depending on the manufacturer and model.

Many socks / socks have a wide waistband at the top that can be turned over at the knee and thus also fixes the sock to the leg.

Special rules

When playing football , the socks must completely cover the shin guards. If they are pasted over, the adhesive tape must have the same color as the part of the nozzle that it pastes over.

In hockey , just like the sports shoes in international game traffic, the socks must not be white so that the referees can better recognize the hockey ball.
