Stygnocoris fuligineus is a bug fromthe Rhyparochromidae family .
features
The bugs become 2.5 to 3.3 millimeters long. Representatives of the genus Stygnocoris can be recognized by the fine hairs on the pronotum and the hemielytras . The pronotum is completely punctured and the thighs ( femora ) of the front legs do not have spurs. Stygnocoris fuligineus can be distinguished from the very similar Stygnocoris sabulosus by the cloudy color of the dorsal side , the much shorter hair and the dark thighs. The animals are always fully winged (macropter).
distribution and habitat
The species is distributed from North Africa across the Mediterranean to the south of Scandinavia and east to Russia and the Caucasus. It is widespread and not uncommon in Central Europe. They can be found in the Alps up to over 1700 meters above sea level. It is widespread and common in the UK. Regardless of the nature of the soil, different open to partially shaded habitats are settled, but above all dry and warm places with a thick herbaceous layer. You can find them, for example, on cultivated and wasteland.
Way of life
The animals live in the litter . They suck on seeds of various types of plants that have fallen on the ground. Sometimes you can find the adults on the plants and also on woody trees. The females lay their eggs in the ground. The overwintering takes place mainly as an imago. The mating takes place in April and May, the nymphs appear in May and July, from August the adult animals of the new generation, which again lay mates and eggs. In September and October the nymphs of the second generation appear, which only hibernate in unfavorable conditions, otherwise they molt into adults beforehand. It is possible that these adults will mate in November.
