Styloctenium is a genus in the family of bats with two species of which until 2007 only one type was known.

The genus includes the following species:

  • The Mindoro striped- faced fruit bat ( Styloctenium mindorensis ) was discovered in a small area on the Philippine island of Mindoro in 2006 and scientifically described in 2007. The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) lists the species with “insufficient data available” (data deficient) .
  • The Sulawesi striped- faced fruit bat ( Styloctenium wallacei ) occurs on Sulawesi and on smaller islands in the area. He is listed in the early warning list (Near Threatened) .

Appearance information is based on data collected on the Sulawesi striped-faced fruit bat. This species reaches a head-torso length of 152 to 178 mm, a forearm length of 90 to 103 mm and a weight of 174 to 218 g. Characteristic for the species are two white stripes on the face, which is otherwise covered with red-brown fur like the back of the head. On the back there is light gray fur with a reddish shade and the belly side is light reddish brown. In general, these flying foxes resemble the species of the genus Pteropus . In contrast, they lack the first lower incisor and the third lower molar on either side . The species found on Mindoro have more robust canines.

Almost nothing is known about the way of life. Forests in the lowlands or in mountains up to 1000 meters high serve as habitats .
