Stylonurina is one of the two suborders from the order of the sea scorpions (Eurypterida). They are considered the basal (original) Eurypterids. Both the oldest ( Brachyopterus stubblefieldi from the early Upper Ordovician ( Sandbium ) of Wales ) and the youngest ( Hibbertopterus permianus from the Upper Permian ( Wuchiapingium ) of Russia ) known representatives of the Eurypterida come from it.

Stylonurina had transverse sutures on the ventral plates and did not have a modified podomere 7a on prosomal limb VI.
Locations
Representatives of the suborder Stylonurina were found on all continents with the exception of Antarctica .

The subordination was established in 1924 by Karl Diener . According to Lamsdell, Braddy & Tetlie 2010, it includes the following superfamilies and a genus incertae sedis :
