The Sud-Ouest SO9000 / 9050 is a French experimental military aircraft from the 1950s.
In the late 1940s, development work began for this supersonic - interceptor with mixed drive ; Dassault Aviation pursued a similar concept with the MD.550 Mirage .
In March 1953 the prototype SO9000 Trident took off for the first flight . The single-seat machine had a fuselage in sandwich construction, in the rear of which a three-chamber rocket engine SEPR-481 (4,400 kp) was installed. At the ends of the trapezoidal blades with an extremely thin profile, there were initially two lightweight Turboméca Marboré turbines , which were later replaced by two Armstrong Siddeley Vipers (770 kp each). The machine had no ailerons , but flaps that extended over the entire wing ; the function of the ailerons was taken over by the undamped horizontal stabilizer with a strongly negative V-position .
In 1955 the smaller SO9050 Trident II followed, which however had a larger wing depth. It took off for the first flight on July 19, 1955 and showed overall the expected performance, so that the construction of a pilot series began. In 1957, the Trident II crashed on a test flight, whereupon the series was canceled. After the completion of a last machine, known as the Trident III, the entire project was canceled because the Mirage III was a suitable model.
