Sudatel ( Sudanese Telecom Company ; Arabic سوداتل, DMG Sūdātil ) is a telecommunications company and internet provider in Sudan . The company is responsible for setting up and maintaining the Sudanese communication network. 60 percent of the shares are owned by the Sudanese government and 40 percent by private investors. They are traded on the Bahrain Stock Exchange .
history
Sudatel was founded in 1993 following the privatization of the Sudanese telecommunications business. This promised a better development of this important sector. The company started operations in February 1994.
Projects
One of the business activities is the construction of fiber optic networks for data transmission . This includes in particular the following connections:
- Sudan - Egypt
- Sudan - Ethiopia
- Sudan - South Africa.
It is a connection through the whole of East Africa. It is being built by Sudatel in collaboration with Alcatel and has a budget of US $ 250 million. - A cable under the Red Sea from Bur Sudan to Jeddah in Saudi Arabia. This project started in 2003 with BT and Alcatel and was completed in December 2006.
- Distance Learning Project: The country's universities are to be connected to remote cities and villages via an HDSL network.
Sudatel is also registered as a mobile operator in Mauritania . The company paid US $ 100 million for this license.
