Suddenly I See (dt. Suddenly I recognize it) is a song by British musician KT Tunstall from her debut album Eye to the Telescope . It was released on August 29, 2005 as the third (second in the United States) single and reached number 12 in the UK singles chart . The single is (as of November 2018) Tunstall's only top 50 hit in Australia , where it was awarded gold for 35,000 units sold. In addition, "Suddenly I See" is the singer's most successful single in Canada, with 20,000 units sold and a platinum award .

Composition and text

The song is inspired by the American musician Patti Smith and deals with "female strength". In the text Tunstall describes how she was inspired to pursue a musical career while looking at the cover of the album Horses . Stylistically, the song is described as a mixture of blues, country and pop.

Use in the media

“Suddenly I See” can be heard in the film The Devil Wears Prada , but not on the released soundtrack. Tunstall himself said that she could not have imagined that the song would fit into a “chick flick” and that she could be understood to mean that she wanted to be a “fucking model”. The song can also be heard in the film Blind Dating .

The song was considered for the campaign for Hillary Clinton's candidacy in the 2008 presidential primaries in the United States .

The song has been used in television commercials in various countries, including Walmart in the United States and Nestea in Germany.
