Sudeten German Archive Munich

The Sudeten German Archive serves to preserve and research the culture and history of the Sudeten Germans and is located as a deposit in Department V (Estates and Collections) of the Bavarian Main State Archive . It was formerly located in the Sudeten German House in Munich. It was founded in 1955 with the support of the Federal Republic of Germany and the Free State of Bavaria . The archive is supported by the registered association Sudetendeutsches Institut eV as the legal successor of the Sudetendeutschen Archiv eV

Stocks

For historical reasons, the majority of the archive comes from the years after the Second World War , which resulted in the expulsion of a large part of the German-speaking population from Bohemia , Moravia and Czech Silesia . The holdings are divided into three groups: bequests, collections and association documents and are constantly growing with new additions.

The records of various Sudeten German organizations (e.g. Sudetendeutsche Landsmannschaft , Sudeten German Council , Main Committee for Refugees and Deported Persons in Bavaria , Künstlergilde Esslingen eV ) as well as bequests and records of Sudeten German personalities (including Rudolf Lodgman von Auen , Wenzel Jaksch , Walter Becher , Hans Tropsch , Hans Watzlik , Robert Lindenbaum , Herbert Cysarz ).

Around 80,000 paper prints, postcards, slides , glass plates, negatives and a collection of historical prints are stored in the picture archive .

The museum collection is a department that is currently being established and is intended to form the basis for the planned Sudeten German Museum.
