history

Painting by Gustav Adolf Closs : The excursion restaurant Waldhörnle near Tübingen (1907)

Up until the end of the 18th century there was practically no development in the area of the Waldhörnle. However, it was on a busy and well-developed highway. This was crossed by a path to the neighboring Derendinger vineyards at the time and in the direction of the inner-city transport network. At this intersection, the Derendingen ox host Johann Jakob Röhm acquired a small piece of land with the purpose of building an inn there. Due to the turmoil of the war, however, this could only take place in 1807 with the establishment of the Fuhrmann restaurant Zum Waldhörnle . The Waldhornwirt Röhm succeeded in enlarging the property and the buildings over the next few years, so that there was also a beer brewery there from around 1815. Due to its convenient location, the Waldhörnle became a popular destination and was a rest and post station. After the landlord's death, the Waldhörnle changed hands several times. The beer from the Waldhörnle only became famous with Franz Bachner, and from 1852 it was the most important hospitality company in Tübingen in the 19th century. Other restaurants were also supplied with beer from Bachner'schen Brauerei AG. From 1888 to 1935, beating connections held their scales on the drum floor on the first floor of the Waldhörnle .

Between 1927 and 1987 the Beck'sche Möbelfabrik was located on the brewhouse premises.

Todays use

Since 1988 the unused area has been rented by the Association of Sociocultural Center Sudhaus from the city of Tübingen and a cultural center has been set up. Today the brewhouse offers a wide range of cultural activities, and businesses and culture enthusiasts have settled on the site and have created a three-digit number of jobs. It is the editorial office of the free radio for Reutlingen and Tübingen desert wave .

The brewhouse now has several event rooms, a theater room with around 100 seats, the large hall with around 600 standing places, an exhibition room, the Galerie Peripherie , and a bar with a dance room, which is open for parties. The program includes children's theater, concerts from jazz, blues, rock and pop to hip-hop, as well as cabaret, comedy and cabaret. Those interested in art have the opportunity to visit changing exhibitions in the Peripherie Gallery . During the summer months, the beer garden on the edge of the forest is open, where both large concerts and music around the campfire take place. Extensive renovations are currently taking place, which will add a new, large event room to the brewhouse.
