Suisse Cycle Messenger Championships

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Suisse Cycle Messenger Championships ( SuiCMC for short ) are the Swiss bicycle courier championships.

Disciplines

Bicycle courier championships know different disciplines:

  • Main race: a post run competition based on everyday courier life, in which shipments have to be transported between individual posts. Since the order of the orders is open, the driving tactics play a decisive role.
  • Sprint: Short distance racing on a straight track, it's all about responsiveness and speed
  • Skid: Skill competition that is carried out with track bikes (or bikes without free wheeling). The aim is to slide as far as possible over the asphalt with the rear wheel locked. After a short acceleration distance, the rear wheel is blocked with the pedals and the weight is placed on the front wheel as far as possible in order to keep the resistance of the rear wheel as low as possible.
  • Trackstand : Skill competition that involves keeping your balance on a track bike .

history

The very first courier race of national importance was held in Basel in 1993 in the form of an Alleycat race. Between 1995 and 1999 there were unofficial Swiss courier championships under the name “Rat Race”, each with different modes, namely alleycat races, long distance races (1998: Geneva-Lucerne), team competitions or post runs, which were similar to today's courier championships . In 1999 the World Championship (CMWC) took place in Zurich. From 2000 the SuiCMC were institutionalized. The SuiCMC association was founded, which in the following years was responsible for racing regulations and the implementation of the championships. This club fell asleep from 2006 onwards, but the championships are still characterized by the conceptual work of the SuiCMC club. Local organizations, usually in cooperation with the local courier company, are responsible for holding the championships.

Previous venues were: 2000: Basel , 2001: Zurich , 2002: Geneva , 2003: Lucerne , 2004: Bern , 2005: Geneva, 2006: Zurich, 2007: Lausanne , 2008: Lucerne, 2009: Basel, 2010 not held, 2011: Zurich, 2012: Biel , 2013: Freiburg im Breisgau (combined championships Switzerland, Germany and Austria), 2014: Nyon , 2015 St. Gallen (combined championships Switzerland and Germany), 2016 Vevey , 2017 Winterthur .

In 2013, both the European Championship (ECMC, in Bern) and the World Championship (CMWC, in Lausanne) took place in Switzerland. Against this background, it was decided not to organize its own SuiCMC. Instead, there was a combined championship for Germany, Austria and Switzerland in Freiburg im Breisgau in Germany under the title TriCMC. In 2018 the SuiCMC is expected to take place in Lugano.
