Sulayman Daud

Tan Sri Sulaiman Daud (born March 4, 1933 in Kuching , Sarawak , † March 23, 2010 in Kuala Lumpur ) was a Malaysian politician .

biography

After attending school, Daud studied dentistry at the University of Otago in New Zealand and, after graduating as a Philosophiae Doctor (Ph.D. Dentistry), worked as a dentist in the public service of Sarawak and in the 1960s in the Brunei Health Department.

He later began a political career as vice-president of the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu , a party within the National Front ( Barisan Nasional ). As their representative he was also a member of the House of Representatives ( Dewan Rakyat ) from 1974 to 2004 , where he represented the interests of Petra Jaya .

On March 19, 1981 he was appointed to the federal government by Prime Minister Mahathir bin Mohamad for the first time and was initially Minister of Education. As part of a cabinet reshuffle, he became Minister for Culture, Youth and Sport in 1984 and then Minister for Land and Regional Development from 1986 to 1989. In 1989 he became Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office and, after another cabinet reshuffle, in 1990 Minister for Internal Trade and Consumer Affairs. He was then again Minister of Education between 1991 and 1995, before he was last Minister of Agriculture in the government of Mahathir bin Mohamad from 1995 to 1999.
